Have Some Fun!

The purpose of business is to make a profit.  I also believe the purpose of business is to have some fun.  Last week the RSM McGladrey office in Des Moines, IA went to a bowling alley to hold an all hands meeting, have some lunch, bowl, and then play sand volleyball.

It was a blast.  Every person I met was having a great time and it also was structured in a way for us to meet all of the new people.

There are many ways to have fun at work.  Here are some ideas for you to contemplate:

  • Get the CEO or top leadership  to dress like cupid and hand out candy.
  • Close the office for an hour and have an Easter egg hunt with prizes in the plastic eggs - people will be finding eggs for months!
  • Scavenger hunt - clues given until someone finds the hidden envelope.
  • Hand out bonus checks in character - Santa, 70's disco outfit, clown, etc...
  • Post baby pictures and have a "guess who" contest.
  • Sing happy birthday to people like they do at some restaurants.
  • Hold a Fear Factor eating contest - raw liver, worms, and other special dishes.
  • Hold a pumpkin carving contest - then give the pumpkins to nursing homes.
  • Move someones desk into the bathroom.
  • Anonymously deliver flowers to someone saying that they did a good job.
  • Place a few remote mice or snakes around.
  • Do a charity fundraiser where people donate money to their favorite leadership person and the one who raises the most kisses a pig.  Put mocked up pig pictures of them around the office.

There are so many ways to have fun.  The key is to put a little focus on it and you will be amazed at what your people will come up with.
